February 6 - Matthew.

As the linoleum is replaced with hard wood
laid out in panels that fell from the walls
in the basement - when the tiny explosion
dripped slowly to commence, then ran over
the bedroom like a length of ribbon -

The refrigerator went from up to down
to down to up, which changed his posture
from slouched to upright - all
six feet, three inches of him
two by one, brothers began their
nightly march to the basement, or the
pale brown hallway

So militant, under white light they learned
morse code - S. O. S.
they would tap out, over and over
wrapped in flannel pajamas, twisted around
feet and ankles like gauze bandages

As hands as windows, a crystal-clear grip
as eyes as saturated bricks
as the wallpaper rips like streamers
happy birthday baby, here's to getting what you want!
